The Kiva entrepreneurs who have received financing from the Results Map Beta Review Team have been very busy.
Lilian (Mbozi, Tanzania)
28 years old, married with 3 children between 4 and 7
Lilian was the first entrepreneur Ingenium selected to support. A pioneer of micro-credit in Tanzania, Lilian is helping to advance the economic empowerment of women in her country through Micro-Leasing. With customs and traditions making it difficult for women to own land and assets, and therefore being termed non-creditworthy by financial institutions, the provision of a leasing and leaseback microfinance facility provides much needed financial support to women with low incomes. Lilian has owned and operated her own beauty salon since 2006 and employs one other person. Her business has been doing very well and she has repaid approximately 25% of her loan received through Ingenium.
Ritchel (Ozamiz City, Philippines)
31 years old, married with 4 school-aged children
Ritchel has had a very successful quarter and has repaid 69% of her loan. She owns and operates a "sari-sari" style general store. The main source of income for the business comes from selling daily-use products such as shampoo, soap and toothpaste in the community.
Mely (Tugas, Philippines)
57 years old, married with 4 adult children
Like Ritchel, Mely owns and operates a "sari-sari" style general store selling daily-use products in her community. She too is enjoying success with her business and has repaid approximately 25% of her loan.
Both Ritchel and Mely are in the Misamis Occidental region of the Philippines, an area recently hit hard by a series of natural disasters, making the business services they provide invaluable in their communities.
In the spirit of Kiva, Ingenium has reinvested the loan repayments received from our first three entrepreneurs and has sponsored Jessica, a 34 year old mother of two from Chiclayo, Peru.
Jessica is a very hard working and enterprising woman who has established an Internet Café in her home. She manages the business from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm seven days per week. The business does well because of its central location and proximity to several high schools.
In addition to Internet service, Jessica has begun offering additional services including helping people do internet searches and providing printing services for local businesses and schools. The funding she receives will finance the purchase of a multi-functional color printer which would help improve her printing services in order to meet the high demand and increase her revenue.
We encourage you to visit the Kiva site and follow the progress of these four incredible women.
